New Years Resolution

December 31, 2012 By: Aaron

This year I thought I would make my resolutions public. One of the things I find as a problem with resolutions is that they sometimes die quick. I believe if you make it known, then friends, family, and loved ones would be more inclined to help and encourage you to meet your goals.

Life goals can be hard to accomplish on your own, and often times it takes the support of those around you to reach your goals.

First I would like to be a more loving and accepting person. I think this would be more of a spiritual growth. This I believe would be the most important since it would affect all aspects of my life, from the people I love to those I have yet to meet. Something I think and hope would make me a better person. Growth, in and of itself, is not a fast process. I know it is something that will take time, dedication and hard work, but at the end of every journey there is always something to be gained.

Back in October I participated in the Extra Life event, an annual gaming marathon that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. I would like to expand on that and make the effort to commit at least 1 day a month to volunteer work. The money I helped raise for Extra Life all went towards Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and I believe it is with them I would like to continue to work with. My wife use to do volunteer work when we met, maybe this will be a future connecting point for us as we continue to grow and develop in our marriage.

My third goal is a professional growth goal. By the end of 2013 I am hoping to obtain my CCNA Certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate). I know it’s not going to be easy and will require a lot of work and dedication to studying and applying the material. It is something I think I should have done a long time ago, something I wish I would have done. Plotting out my course of study, I’ve come to realize that it would be beneficial for me to start out with the A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications first before moving on to preparing myself for the CCNA exams.

Going to try and live this year by this one simple quote by Kellie Elmore – “Life is like a steering wheel; it only takes one small move to change your entire direction.” and I think it is time to change my direction.

Here’s to 2013, with the hopes of making my life and the lives of those around me a little bit better than they are today.
