Extra Life Phoenix Guild

It’s been an interesting 6 months since the formation of the Extra Life Phoenix Guild. Like with anything new we’ve had a few bumps here and there and as we are closing in on the Official Game Day it seems that we are starting to get into a groove. I think it’ll be an exciting year next year as we expand the reach of Extra Life and get involved in more events around town.
So far this year we’ve held our monthly meetings at End Game in Tempe, hopefully, as we grow we can start to add other meeting locations around the Greater Phoenix Area so others can have a chance to attend a meeting that is closer to them. End Game has been a great home base with its gaming theme and the ability to host tournaments and gatherings. We’re hoping to be able to spend a few hours on game day at this location so that people have the chance to interact with other participants of Extra Life. More details on this will be available probably in October when we finalize the event.
As a Guild we’ve attended a Mortal Kombat tournament, Game On Expo, and Saboten Con. All of which we’ve had several new sign ups for participation in Extra Life. A lot of the feed back has been very positive. Several people wanted to know how they can follow the Guild and how they can join in Guild activities. In my opinion, Extra Life themselves didn’t hand us a lot of options out of the bag to address some of these interests from the general public. Though in a recent email exchange with our EL Rep some of these things are going to be address.
An important change coming down the road, our Facebook group is going to be made a public group. Currently it’s a closed group since it was created by the EL Rep and because of this getting the word out an where we were attending and having a central location for people has been challenging. A home page / landing page with a Guild specific calendar has also been lacking. Our attempts to create one for ourselves was met with some push back, but recently we learned that there will be Guild specific homepages launching in October with a calendar. This will be nice since we can then give people a clean URL that is not muddled with a string of numbers and characters to easily find and access the official Guild forums. When the Guild specific home pages launch the URL should look something like (community.extra-life.org/phoenix). Currently you can find the Official forum by going to HERE.
All in all the experience has been fun. Been able to meet some great new people and enjoy a few events. I’m looking forward to what the upcoming year will bring.
