One year to the day

January 16, 2018 By: Aaron

….. Since my last blog post lol.
So much has happened since then. In my last post we were about 6 months into having 2 children living with us and today we now have 3 foster children. Back in July we had the toddler’s oldest sister come to live with us. Life has been different going from no children to 3 all inside of a time span of 11 months.

On to whats been happening since Jan. 16th 2017:

This past year some friends and I have been meeting up about once a month. It’s kind of a guys outing. We’ve done things from camping, shooting, whiskey tastings. We’ve gotten into the habit of doing the monthly whiskey tastings at a local Irish bar; Rosie McCaffrey’s. Our next camping trip will be coming up in April, that’s something we’re all looking forward to.

Last summer we decided to buy a new house and move. We went from Phoenix out to Mesa. My commute is longer but we were able to get a larger house that would fit all 5 of us. The bonus part is that the house has a basement, which is rare out here in Arizona.

Like I said earlier, The oldest sibling, Ana, came out to stay with us towards the end of July. When she arrived we got to take everyone out to Arizona Grand Resort for the weekend thanks to a foster program. It was a good way to welcome her to the family.

In September Amy and I went out to Moab UT again for a few days and met with some friends. It was a fun couple of days. We rented a teardrop camper to pull behind the Jeep. While we were there we got the chance to do Gemini Bridges and Shafer Trail.

October came along and Ean and I helped Erick cook a whole pig for his annual Halloween Party. This was the second year he did a pig and it came out good. I’m looking forward to doing it again this year, I’m sure we’ll get better at cooking it every year.

Thanksgiving this year was just the 5 of us at the new house. Instead of doing a turkey I decided to try a brisket. Like with most things I’m sure I’ll get better the more I practice, but for my first attempt at a brisket it came out pretty good. Ended up cooking it for about 11 hours and having rest in a cooler for about 1.5 hours.

And that brings us to December, with birthdays and Christmas. The 2 youngest children both have birthdays in December, it’s not too bad with them being so young, will be interested to see how this changes as they get older. Christmas this year had Amy and I both sick. Luckily not at the same time. All in all everyone we were all able to be up and moving around pretty well on Christmas morning.
